Gerlev Center for Play and Movement is Denmark’s leading knowledge centre dedicated to the power of play and joyful movement. For more than 40 years, Gerlev has championed the idea that play is not just for children — it is essential for wellbeing, connection, and an active society.
Part of the historic Gerlev Academy of Sports (founded in 1938), the centre helped revive Denmark’s traditional sports and games in the 1990s, bringing heritage back to life with fresh energy and creativity.
Today, Gerlev works with schools, communities, organisations and municipalities to inspire people of all ages to move, connect, and rediscover the joy of games. Through courses, events, research and national initiatives, the centre strengthens play culture across Denmark.
Gerlev’s mission is simple: create a more playful, active and connected society — where movement is driven by fun, creativity and togetherness.
At the European Sport for All Games 2026, a delegation of seven Gerlev representatives will bring Danish play culture to life through interactive demonstrations of traditional games and movement activities. They will invite participants to experience Denmark’s rich game heritage in a hands-on, inclusive way. Through shared play, they will create moments of connection across cultures, showing how games can unite people beyond language and borders.
