Çelik Çomak is a traditional outdoor game that has been played by children in Türkiye for generations. The game is played using two wooden sticks: a short stick called the “çelik” and a longer stick called the “çomak.” It is especially known as a popular village and street game requiring skill, speed, and coordination.
The aim of the game is to strike the short stick into the air using the long stick and then hit it again to send it as far as possible. Players compete by measuring the distance the short stick travels or by trying to catch it before it lands, depending on local rules.
Çelik Çomak was traditionally played in open fields, village squares, schoolyards, and empty streets. Because it required only simple handmade materials, it became one of the most accessible traditional games among children throughout Anatolia.
