Dalye, also known in many regions of Türkiye as Tombik, is a traditional outdoor team game played with a ball and stacked stones or cans. The game has been enjoyed by children for generations in schoolyards, neighbourhood streets, and open playgrounds throughout Türkiye.
The game is usually played between two teams. At the start of the game, one team tries to knock down a tower made of flat stones using a ball. After the stones are scattered, the same team attempts to rebuild the tower while the opposing team tries to hit the players with the ball before they can complete it.
Dalye requires speed, teamwork, coordination, and strategy. Players must both protect their teammates and avoid being hit while rebuilding the stack. The game encourages cooperation, communication, and quick decision-making.
Because it can be played with simple materials found easily in everyday life, Dalye became one of the most popular traditional street games among children, even families, in Türkiye. Today, it continues to be played during school activities, youth festivals, and traditional games events, helping preserve an important part of Turkish playground culture.
