The Large Ruzzola
Il Ruzzolone is the bigger and heavier cousin of La Ruzzola. Like the smaller version, it has a long history, with written records dating back to the 14th century.
The game is played outdoors on roads or on special tracks known as trepi. Players throw a large wooden disc measuring approximately 26 cm in diameter and weighing at least 2 kg.
What makes Il Ruzzolone especially challenging is that each new throw must be taken from the exact point where the disc stopped after the previous attempt. This can mean throwing from an awkward position beside the road or even off the track. The player must keep one foot firmly inside the marked stopping area before making the next throw.
The aim is to cover as much distance as possible, but the real challenge is adapting to wherever the disc lands. Power helps, but control and quick thinking are just as important.
