La Calva

Spain

From the heart of rural Spain comes La Calva, a traditional throwing sport that combines strength, accuracy and centuries of heritage. Popular in regions such as Castilla y Leon, this historic game reflects the social and communal spirit of Spanish village life.

The goal is simple — but far from easy. Players throw a metal or stone cylinder, called a marro, at an angled wooden target known as the calva. To score, the throw must strike the target cleanly without touching the ground first. With players taking turns from a marked line, only direct hits count — and victory goes to whoever lands the most successful strikes. It is straightforward in rules, yet demands real skill in aim, power and control.
