Public participation and volunteers play central role as city prepares to welcome 26 European delegations this August

Limerick people are being invited to play their part in one of the city’s most colourful international events this summer, as volunteer registration opens for the European Sport for All Games 2026. Taking place in Limerick from 7th to 10th August, the European Sport for All Games will bring 26 European delegations to the city for a vibrant celebration of traditional sports and culture.

Volunteers will play a central role in welcoming visitors, supporting public participation and helping to bring the festival atmosphere to life across Limerick city centre.

The Games will feature traditional sports and games from across Europe, along with cultural activities, demonstrations and opportunities for members of the public to try out new activities in an accessible and inclusive setting. Organisers are now calling on people from across Limerick to sign up as volunteers and help make the event a success.

Volunteers of all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome, with a range of enjoyable roles available throughout the Games. Tasks will include welcoming and guiding the public across event venues, encouraging people to try out activities, and helping European delegations and visitors experience the best of Limerick. There are roles for senior volunteers and junior volunteers.

Phelim Macken, Limerick Sports Partnership, said volunteers would be at the heart of the Games:

“The European Sport for All Games is about participation, inclusion and bringing people together. Volunteers will be central to that. They will help create the welcome, energy and community spirit that visitors will remember when they come to Limerick this August. This is a great opportunity for local people to get involved in a major international event, meet new people, gain hands-on volunteering experience and be part of a unique European festival atmosphere. Whether someone has volunteered before or is getting involved for the first time, we would love to hear from them.”

Organisers are also keen to hear from people who speak languages other than English, as delegations will be visiting from Spain, Italy, France, Estonia, Turkey, Poland and many other countries.

The Games are being organised by Limerick Sports Partnership and TAFISA in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council, Sport Ireland, University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College and co-funded by the European Union.
